Happy Sea

Telemach Croatia

The project “Happy Sea“ is a unique, long-term socially responsible initiative that innovatively combines youth education, environmental preservation, and the application of advanced technology in protecting the Adriatic Sea. Telemach, in cooperation with the Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) Innovamare and the Ruđer Bošković Institute, launched this initiative with the aim of raising awareness about the problem of marine pollution by waste and microplastics, and fostering collective responsibility for its protection. During the project, upper-grade primary school students participate in educational workshops and beach cleaning actions, while professional divers clean the seabed with the support of the first Croatian autonomous vessel, Faust V, and underwater drones. Faust V, developed by DIH Innovamare, is equipped with advanced sensors and a sophisticated monitoring system that allows for the detection of waste at depths of up to 50 meters. Thanks to Telemach’s 5G network, the vessel's control and video content transmission occur in real time, enabling divers to plan more efficiently and conduct faster and more precise cleaning actions. To date, four cleaning actions have been realized in Croatian coastal towns, involving nearly 250 participants: students, divers, representatives of the local community and Telemach employees. Over four and a half tons of waste were removed, a total of 170 students from four schools participated, and workshop evaluations recorded a strong increase in environmental awareness.
