UK Car Finance Scandal: Delivering Justice for 1.5 Million Car Finance Victims

Forward Global UK

Client: Courmacs Legal Limited

Forward Global UK’s campaign for Courmacs Legal, 'Delivering Justice for 1.5 Million Car Finance Victims', transformed a low-profile specialist law firm based in Blackburn into a national consumer rights champion fighting against major banks on behalf of motorists across the UK. Tasked with raising Courmacs' profile and accelerating client acquisition during the car finance mis-selling scandal, Forward Global implemented a strategy combining high-impact media relations with robust parliamentary and regulatory advocacy. Key tactics included exposing aggressive litigation practices by lenders - specifically a 'paper mountain' tactic designed to overwhelm administrative staff - via a feature in The Daily Telegraph. To humanise technical legal arguments, the Forward Global team identified and deployed case studies, such as Roy, a pizza delivery driver from Fife, to secure national and regional broadcast coverage during key UK legal hearings. At the same time, Forward Global analysed Courmacs' claimant data by parliamentary constituency to generate local news stories and brief influential MPs - including members of the Treasury Select Committee. This advocacy extended to a bespoke email campaign targeting all 650 Westminster MPs and events at all the major 2025 party political conferences. Forward Global also facilitated the inclusion of Courmacs’ data in an APPG on Fair Banking report, allowing the media to quantify consumer detriment. The campaign successfully shifted the narrative from a dry regulatory issue to a mainstream consumer scandal. By the end of 2025, Courmacs was established as the sector's 'go to' firm, achieving significant growth in its client base and claim volume.
